Doctor X Korean Drama | Kim Ji-won Netflix Release Time

Kim Ji-won’s first drama since Queen of Tears is only days away, and the questions in fan chats are practical ones. What time does Doctor X air where you live? Is it really on Netflix outside Korea? And why do different sites print two different English titles for the same Doctor X Korean drama?

This guide answers those three questions with what SBS and Netflix have actually published. You will find a time zone table for the first episode, the full weekly pattern, the cast with their roles, and a short note on the Japanese hit it remakes, all without spoilers.

Doctor X premieres on SBS on Friday, October 9, 2026, at 9:50 PM KST, which is 8:50 AM ET and 5:50 AM PT. On Netflix it is called Doctor X: Mafia in White, and new episodes follow every Friday and Saturday for 12 episodes.

Doctor X Korean drama release time by time zone

SBS airs Doctor X in its Friday-Saturday slot at 9:50 PM Korea Standard Time. Soompi reported the 9:50 PM KST start from the drama’s September 2026 promotion. Korea Standard Time is nine hours ahead of UTC, so the first episode starts at 12:50 UTC on October 9, 2026.

The table converts that start time for the regions where most international viewers watch. US viewers get the premiere on Friday morning, not Thursday night, because Korea is 13 hours ahead of New York in October.

The times above are the SBS broadcast start. Netflix has not posted an exact upload hour for each episode on its title page. If you want an alert the moment it appears in your region, open the Netflix title page and tap Remind Me.

Clocks change during the run, so later episodes shift for some viewers. The UK leaves British Summer Time on October 25, 2026, which moves the start to 12:50 PM GMT. The US ends daylight saving time on November 1, 2026, which moves it to 7:50 AM ET and 4:50 AM PT.

Netflix title, schedule and episode count

The English title is the part that confuses most readers. Netflix’s own title page lists the show as Doctor X: Mafia in White, with Kim Ji-won, Lee Jung-eun and Son Hyun-joo as the leads. Some outlets wrote Doctor X: Age of the White Mafia, which is a literal translation of the Korean subtitle. Search Netflix for Mafia in White if a plain “Doctor X” search shows you the Japanese original first.

The full Korean title is 닥터X: 하얀 마피아의 시대. SBS confirmed the October 9 premiere on August 31, 2026, according to Ilgan Sports. Netflix pickup was reported much earlier: What’s on Netflix reported on May 1, 2026 that the series would stream on Netflix the same day it airs in Korea.

  • Episodes: 12 in total
  • Release pattern: two episodes a week, every Friday and Saturday
  • Runtime: about 70 minutes per episode
  • Korean broadcaster: SBS, Friday-Saturday drama slot
  • Streaming: Netflix, listed on the Netflix title page with a 15+ rating in Korea
  • Final episode date: not announced by SBS or Netflix

A Friday-Saturday run of 12 episodes would reach episodes 11 and 12 on November 13 and 14, 2026, if SBS skips no weeks. That is simple counting, not an official finale date. Korean networks sometimes pause a drama for sports or special programming, so treat mid-November as an estimate.

Regional availability is another point to check yourself. What’s on Netflix describes the show as an internationally licensed title, but Netflix has not published a country list. The Remind Me button only appears where the show will stream, so it doubles as a quick availability test.

Who is in the Doctor X cast

Kim Ji-won leads as Gye Su-jeong, a freelance genius surgeon. English outlets also spell the name Gye Soo-jung or Kye Su Jeong, and all three refer to the same character. SBS describes her as the “mad dog of the operating room,” a doctor who wins on surgical skill alone and refuses to bend to hospital politics.

Jung Seok-yong joined the announced cast later. Sports Kyunghyang reported on October 1, 2026 that he plays Kim Chang-su, a medical power broker. The first four names were announced by SBS in November 2025.

Netflix credits Lee Jeong-lim as director and Pyeon Seong-geun as writer. Korean press spells them Lee Jung-rim and Pyeon Seung-geun. Lee Jeong-lim previously directed the office drama VIP and Netflix’s As You Stood By. Studio S, Studio Dragon and HighZium Studio produce the series.

What Doctor X is about, without spoilers

Netflix’s logline sets up the premise in one line. A brilliant surgeon arrives at a hospital run on ego and corruption and takes on cases everyone else calls impossible. Through Jang Hee-sook’s placement agency, Gye Su-jeong lands at Guseo University Hospital to fill a gap in the surgery department.

SBS markets the show as a medical noir and the first medical title in its “Cider Universe.” That label covers SBS revenge-style hits such as Taxi Driver and The Fiery Priest, where one outsider breaks a corrupt system. Expect satisfying takedowns more than slow romance, based on how SBS positions the drama.

If you liked the hospital politics of Hyper Knife, the setting will feel familiar. The tone is different, though. Hyper Knife follows a surgeon in the shadows, while Doctor X sends its surgeon straight into the boardroom fights.

The Japanese original behind the remake

Doctor X adapts TV Asahi’s Doctor-X: Surgeon Michiko Daimon, which premiered in 2012 with Ryoko Yonekura in the title role. The Japanese series ran for seven seasons until 2021 and closed with a feature film. TV Asahi’s program catalog announced the Korean remake on December 12, 2025, calling it the first overseas remake of the franchise.

The same catalog lists the original’s average ratings as 11.6% among individuals and 20.4% among households in the Kanto region. Those numbers explain why SBS chose a proven format. SBS has not said how closely the Korean version follows the Japanese episodes, so any plot comparison now is guesswork.

Netflix added the Japanese series in 2026, but availability is not the same everywhere. What’s on Netflix reported a September 1, 2026 rollout, yet the title was not listed on Netflix Korea when we checked on October 7, 2026. Search your own region before you plan a back-to-back watch.

Other K-dramas arriving on October 9

Doctor X is not the only Korean premiere that Friday. Netflix also releases Take Charge of My Heart on October 9, 2026, a rom-com starring Kim Young-kwang and Chae Soo-bin. That show drops all 10 episodes at once, while Doctor X releases two episodes a week.

The difference matters when you plan your weekend. Binge the rom-com first and keep Doctor X weekly, and you will not run out of new episodes for six weeks. For more picks this month, see our October 2026 Netflix K-drama guide.
