The KPop Demon Hunters Blu-ray is finally out, and it did not arrive as a plain movie-on-a-disc release. The Criterion Collection put it out on November 3, 2026 as spine #1333, in three versions at three prices. If you only want the film on your shelf, that is more choice than you asked for. If you want the best picture your TV can show, picking the wrong box means paying for discs your player cannot read.
The good news is that the decision comes down to two questions: what player is under your TV, and where you live. Answer those and the right edition is obvious. This guide uses Criterion’s own product page and its tech-support FAQ, so the prices, disc counts and region codes below are the official ones.
Buy the 4K UHD + Blu-ray set if you own a 4K disc player, because it also includes the regular Blu-rays. Buy the Blu-ray if you have a standard Blu-ray player or live outside North America. Skip the DVD unless DVD is all you can play.

The KPop Demon Hunters Blu-ray comes in three Criterion editions
Criterion’s page lists the film as “Now Available” with three purchase options. Each one has a Criterion price and a higher suggested retail price (SRP), which is the figure you will see on many store listings. As of November 4, 2026, criterion.com sells every edition about 20% below SRP, so the official store is not the expensive option here.
| Edition | Discs | Criterion price | SRP | Plays on |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4K UHD + Blu-ray | 3 (one 4K UHD, two Blu-rays) | $39.96 | $49.95 | 4K disc player for the 4K disc; any Blu-ray player for the other two |
| Blu-ray | 2 | $31.96 | $39.95 | Blu-ray or 4K disc player |
| DVD | 2 | $23.96 | $29.95 | DVD, Blu-ray or 4K disc player |
The gap between the 4K set and the Blu-ray is exactly $8.00 at Criterion’s prices. For that, you get a third disc with the film in 4K and Dolby Vision HDR. The gap between the Blu-ray and the DVD is also $8.00, and that step buys full HD instead of standard definition.
What the KPop Demon Hunters Criterion Collection set includes
Criterion published one feature list, headed “Director-Approved 4K UHD + Blu-ray Special Edition Features.” It is a longer list than most studio discs carry. The headline item is a new 4K master approved by directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, so the picture on the disc is the one the filmmakers signed off on.
- New 4K digital master with a Dolby Atmos soundtrack
- One 4K UHD disc in Dolby Vision HDR, plus two Blu-rays with the film and the extras
- The full feature-length animatic, with a new introduction by Kang and Appelhans
- A new making-of documentary
- Two video essays by Taylor Ramos and Tony Zhou, the team behind Every Frame a Painting
- Lyric videos and the trailer
- English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing, and English descriptive audio
- Collectible postcards with original illustrations by artists who worked on the film
- An essay by critic Karen Han and a new cover by Ami Thompson
The animatic is the extra fans will spend the most time with. It is the whole movie in rough storyboard form, which shows how scenes like the HUNTR/X performances were planned before final animation. The Karen Han essay is also on Criterion’s site, dated November 3, 2026, if you want to read it before buying.
One thing to note: Criterion’s page shows a single feature list for the 4K set. It does not break out which extras sit on the 2-disc Blu-ray and DVD editions. If one specific extra matters to you, check the edition’s own listing before you order.

Which KPop Demon Hunters Blu-ray edition to buy for your setup
Start with your player, not the price. A 4K UHD disc will not play in a regular Blu-ray player. Criterion’s FAQ is direct about it: you need a 4K UHD-capable player, and that player will also handle Blu-rays and DVDs.
That is why the 3-disc set is the safe pick even if you are only thinking about 4K. The two Blu-rays inside play in any Blu-ray player, so you can watch it today and keep the 4K disc for a future upgrade. Buying the 2-disc Blu-ray now and the 4K later would cost $71.92 at Criterion’s prices, against $39.96 for the set.
You have a 4K TV and a 4K disc player
Get the 4K UHD + Blu-ray set. The film is presented in Dolby Vision HDR on the 4K disc. Criterion’s FAQ says a 4K player down-converts the picture from HDR to SDR when the screen cannot show HDR, so the disc still looks correct on an older 4K TV, just without the HDR effect.
You have a regular Blu-ray player or a game console
The 2-disc Blu-ray at $31.96 covers you. Check your console first, though. Some consoles play Blu-ray but not 4K UHD discs, and the digital-only versions of current consoles have no disc drive at all.
You only have a DVD player
The DVD is the cheapest at $23.96, and it plays in every type of player. It is standard definition, and Criterion encodes its DVDs as Region 1. If there is any chance you will move to a Blu-ray player later, the extra $8.00 for the Blu-ray edition is the better spend.
Where to buy the KPop Demon Hunters Blu-ray, in the US and abroad
Criterion’s own store is the most direct source and, at the moment, cheaper than SRP. Its FAQ adds a limit: Criterion’s rights cover the United States and Canada, so criterion.com cannot ship outside those two countries. Fans elsewhere will need a retailer that stocks the US release.
The region code matters more for this film than for most Criterion titles. Criterion normally encodes Blu-rays as Region A only. Its tech-support FAQ lists KPop Demon Hunters as an exception, encoded for regions A, B and C, which covers Europe, the UK, Australia and Asia as well as the Americas. Criterion’s 4K discs are region-free.
The DVD is the exception. It is Region 1, so it is the edition most likely to fail on a player bought outside North America.
Large US retailers also carry Criterion releases. Deal trackers such as Slickdeals recorded Amazon taking pre-orders for the 4K set before release day. Prices at other stores move often, so compare any offer against Criterion’s $39.96, $31.96 and $23.96 rather than against SRP.
If you can wait, watch for a sale. Barnes & Noble’s most recent 50% off Criterion sale ran from June 26 to July 26, 2026, according to Sole Retriever’s July 2026 sale guide, which also pointed to another half-off window near the end of the year. As of November 4, no end-of-year sale had been announced, so treat it as possible, not promised.
The disc and Netflix are not the same thing
KPop Demon Hunters is a Netflix film, and it streams on Netflix for subscribers. So the disc is not the only way to watch. It is the only way to own the extras and the 4K master: the animatic, the documentary, the video essays and the Atmos track, on a disc no licensing change can take away.
For fans who already know every lyric, the lyric videos and the animatic are the reason to buy. Pair the disc with our full KPop Demon Hunters song list with who sings each track, or our guide to the HUNTR/X and Saja Boys characters and voice cast. If you are in the US and want something to do with the film beyond the couch, the Netflix House KPop Demon Hunters experience is the other big fan option, and the sequel timeline explains how long this disc will have to hold you over.
Order the edition that matches the player you own today. If that player is 4K, take the 3-disc set and stop there.
KPop Demon Hunters Blu-ray FAQ
Will the KPop Demon Hunters Blu-ray play in the UK or Europe?
Yes. Criterion’s FAQ lists this title as one of the few Blu-rays encoded for regions A, B and C, so it plays on Blu-ray players worldwide. The 4K disc is region-free. The DVD is Region 1 and may not play outside North America.
Does the 4K edition include a regular Blu-ray?
It includes two. The set has one 4K UHD disc of the film and two Blu-rays with the film and the special features, so it works in a standard Blu-ray player too.
What subtitles and audio options are listed?
Criterion lists English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing and English descriptive audio, with a Dolby Atmos soundtrack. No other subtitle languages are listed on the product page, so do not count on them.
